keep可以用作及物动词、不及物动词和系动词。常用意思比较多，考点也多。先进行简单梳理。
一、keep常见用法
1.keep用作及物动词指“保留，保存，留下，保守，保持”。比如：I'll keep a seat for you.我给你留个位置。I kept it all the time to remind me of you.我一直留着它，好让我想起你。I'll keep it for a souvenir.我把它留作纪念。
2.keep指“管理，经营，照顾，养活”。比如：His mother would come and keep house for them.他的母亲会来帮他们料理家务。I lived with my grandmother who kept a hairdressers shop.我和祖母住在一起，她开了一家美发店。
She kept her sister's children.她收留了她姐姐的孩子。She kept a sweet-shop.她经营一家糖果店。
3.keep指“饲养，售卖”。比如：The farmers here keep cattle.这里的农民养牛。It would be nice to keep bees.养蜂很不错。Do you keep postcards?你们有明信片吗?
4.keep指“遵守，维护”。比如：She kept her promise.她遵守了诺言。Everyone must keep the law.人人都必须遵守法律。
Policemen keep order in the streets.警察在街上维持秩序。I’m afraid I won't be able to keep my appointment for this afternoon.我恐怕今天下午不能赴约了。
5.keep指“保持，继续处于某种状态”，在这里keep用作系动词，它后边可以跟形容词。比如：I hope you will keep fit for the races.我希望你保持健康去参加比赛。I hope Mrs. Larry and yourself are keeping well.我希望拉里太太和你都身体健康。How are you keeping?你身体好吗？
keep后可以跟介词短语。比如：I'm keeping in very good health.我身体很好。
6.keep指“使继续处于某种状态”，它是不及物动词，可以跟带现在分词的复合结构。比如：They had great difficulty in keeping the paper going.他们很难维持报纸的运行。He kept them working all day.他让他们整天工作。The police kept the traffic moving.警察使交通畅通。
keep可以跟带过去分词的复合结构。比如：He kept his eyes shut and stayed where he was.他闭着眼睛，呆在原地。Keep your mouth shut and your eyes open.闭上你的嘴，睁大你的眼睛。
keep可以跟带形容词的复合结构。比如：Keep that child quiet.让那孩子安静。Keep the door open.让门开着。
keep可以跟带介词短语的复合结构。比如：He tried most persistently to keep his things in order.他竭力使他的东西井然有序。Keep your nose out of my affairs.别管我的事。
二、keep考点
1.考试常考keep+v-ing或keep+某人+v-ing结构。比如：I keep making the same mistake.我总是犯同样的错误。I’m sorry to have kept you waiting.对不起让你久等了。
2.常考keep…from短语，表示克制自己不做某事，意思为“使……不(做)，阻止，阻止”。比如：
I couldn't keep from laughing.我忍不住笑了。You should keep from doing anything rash.你应当避免做鲁莽的事。We must do something to keep the roof falling in.我们必须设法不让屋顶塌下来。
3.keep on doing与keep doing两者都是“继续做”的意思。前者着重指动作的多次反复，后者强调一种活动不间断。比如：
You kept on making the same mistake.你总犯同样的错。They didn't pay any attention to the class, and I think they will keep doing this.他们上课不专心，我想他们还会继续这样做。
