Today is National Day. National Day is not only a holiday for the whole country to celebrate, but also carries the history of the nation's new life and witnesses China's journey from standing up to becoming strong.
The starting point of this history is fixed on Tiananmen Square on October 1st, 1949. In the early morning of that day, 300,000 military and civilian people gathered from all directions, quietly waiting with the hope for a new life. When Chairman Mao Zedong stood on the Tiananmen Rostrum and announced in a sonorous and forceful voice, "The Central People's Government of the People's Republic of China is established today!", the square was filled with thunderous applause and one after another cheer. The Five-Star Red Flag slowly rose accompanied by the March of the Volunteers. At this moment, it marks that the Chinese people had bid farewell to the hardships and welcomed their own new era.
And the process of National Day becoming a legal holiday also went through a solemn decision-making process. On December 2nd, 1949, the Central People's Government Committee held a meeting and officially decided to set October 1st of each year as the National Day of the People's Republic of China. Since then, this day has had a special meaning given by law and has become a common spiritual symbol for all Chinese people.
Over the past 76 years, the ways of celebrating National Day have changed, but the feelings behind them have remained the same. From the early mass parades and open-air movies to today's light shows and space achievement exhibitions; from the simple smiling faces in black-and-white photos to the global Chinese people celebrating together in short videos, each generation of Chinese people is commemorating this day that makes the country reborn and the people proud in their own way.
