清朝时期，有一名著名的文学家，叫刘蓉。
During the Qing Dynasty, there was a famous literary scholar named Liu Rong.
他自幼聪明好学，尤其喜欢在安静的环境中思考问题。
From a young age, he was intelligent and fond of studying, especially enjoying the quiet environment for contemplation.
年少时，父亲为他安排了一间书房，让他能够专心读书。
During his teenage years, his father arranged a study room for him to focus on his reading.
这间书房位环境清幽，非常适合学习。
The study was located to the west of the Yanghui Hall, with a tranquil environment perfect for learning.
然而，这间书房的地面有一个小洼坑，直径约一尺。
However, there was a small pit in the floor of the study, about one foot in diameter.
When Liu Rong was reading in the study and encountered something he didn't understand, he would look up in thought and pace around the room if he couldn't figure it out.
每次经过洼坑，他都会被绊一下，起初他觉得有些别扭，但时间久了也就习惯了。
Each time he walked over the pit, he would trip, which felt awkward at first, but he gradually got used to it over time.
有一天，刘蓉的父亲来到书房，看到洼坑后笑着说：“一室之不治，何以天下家国为？”
One day, Liu Rong's father came to the study and, seeing the pit, said with a smile, "If you can't manage a single room, how can you manage a country?"
He then ordered a servant to fill in the pit.
父亲走后，刘蓉继续在屋里踱步思考问题。
After his father left, Liu Rong continued to pace around the room in thought.
当他再次走到原来洼坑的地方时，感觉地面突然凸起，心里一惊，低头一看才发现地面已经平整。
When he walked over the spot where the pit had been, he felt a sudden bump and was startled. Only when he looked down did he realize that the floor had been made level.
之后，刘蓉每次经过那里，仍会有一种别扭的感觉，直到过了很久才慢慢习惯。
After that, Liu Rong still felt awkward each time he walked over that spot, until he gradually got used to it after a long time.
Through this experience, Liu Rong profoundly realized that habits have a tremendous influence on people.
他感慨道：“习之中人甚矣哉！”
He exclaimed, "The influence of habits on people is truly profound!"
他进一步总结道：“故君子之学，贵乎慎始。”
He further concluded, "Therefore, the learning of a gentleman is valuable in starting with caution."
Habits have a far-reaching impact on people.
在日常生活中，我们应该从一开始就养成良好的习惯。
In daily life, we should cultivate good habits from the very beginning.
否则会在不知不觉中被错误的习惯所束缚。
Otherwise, we may be unconsciously bound by bad habits.
同时，也提醒我们，连小事都做不好的人，很难承担更大的责任。
At the same time, it also reminds us that those who cannot do small things well will find it difficult to take on greater responsibilities.
因刘蓉的故事跟东汉时的陈蕃事迹非常相似，后人讲二者混淆，生出“一屋不扫，何以扫天下”的典故。
Since Liu Rong's story is very similar to the deeds of Chen Fan in the Eastern Han Dynasty, later generations confused the two,giving rise to the saying "If one cannot sweep a single room, how can he sweep the world?"
